YM_30: The Four Gods Come Together

Japan, ToysKristina PinoComment

In the last month or so,a student of mine has taken to using some thick graphing paper to create a few models of the Chinese gods Kirin, Genbu, Seiryu, and Suzaku (Byakko to come) in his spare time.  These models are all made to a specific scale, use compatible joints, and are fully poseable. They all come together to make one bigger robot, a-la Power RangersThis kid gave a few coworkers and me a full demo: we watched as he started with the separate models, pulled them apart and built them up into the one big model.

Since it's all paper, and he chose to make it super poseable, it's tough to keep it in any one position because it's all wobbly, but that doesn't make this any less cool. The name of the robot is YM_30 for the creator's initials, more-or-less the time it took him to build these parts, and a few other personal factors.

I wanted to share this because I think it's cool, but also because I'm so proud of my student's accomplishment. He has some design sheets all drawn up and everything - a lot of planning went into this and I couldn't be happier.
