Sardine, salad, miso soup, and rice made up this decidedly Japanese meal.

Our salad was a little different than the usual, though it was prepared in much the same way to start (boiled cabbage, carrot, and cucumber): it was seasoned with shiso, or perilla, a kind of herb. The soup was one called midakusan, which means that you can see a lot of things in it. So, yeah, it was loaded with potato, radish, konjac, carrot, onion, and tofu.
