Elementary School Lunch: 05/29 - chestnut mochi

Food, JapanKristina PinoComment

Today's main dish, chanpon men, hails from Nagasaki. It's a kind of noodle dish like ramen that has seafood in it as well as some Chinese-inspired ingredients. We had it with some salad and dessert of chestnut hanamaki.

The soup had naruto, squid, shrimp, bean sprouts, onion, cabbage, and carrots. As usual, the noodles were on the side and we just had to dunk them in as desired. The salad isn't one of our usuals, though: radish salad with spinach and cucumber, doused in sesame seed dressing. One of my favorites.

Finally, we come to the chestnut mochi. The treat had the feel of a dumpling, and actually had little chunks of chestnut in it. Nice end to an overall great meal.
