We got to roll our own sushi lunches today (called temaki-zushi). Though we weren't working with sushi rice, we had some seaweed paper, various fillings, and even some tangy plum sauce to mix in as we liked. I skipped on the seaweed paper because that stuff makes me kind of sick, but together with the rice and plum sauce, the rest of the ingredients are just as good: Omelet, cucumber, salmon, and some shrimp tempura which, for staying-away-from-too-many-deep-fried-things reasons, I skipped on as well (I got bonus omelet and cucumber out of it).
On the side, we had some miso soup that was loaded with veggies. It had tofu, chicken, burdock root, carrot, lotus root, bamboo, and some greens.
Friday was the last day that our staff room will be as crowded as it's been since the middle of the week. The kids are mostly supposed to be returning on Monday, and hopefully there won't be any more flu epidemics. Nonetheless, we aren't home free yet. I received an advisory from our area's cultural center to be wary of hay fever and allergic reactions to pollen. This is also the time of the year that some extra dust rolls in from China, so we need to be extra vigilant.
